The Rotek Model 8100 is a precision source of AC voltage, current and phase angle used in the calibration and test of a wide range of electrical metering instrumentation. It has been designed to be nothing less than the ultimate electrical power calibration standard in both accuracy and flexibility. This single instrument replaces the complicated combinations of individual voltage sources, current sources and phase angle meters required to calibrate power, power quality, and energy meters.
The Model 8100 makes use of sophisticated high-speed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology to generate extremely accurate outputs for a wide range of real world loads. The internal circuits of the Model 8100 use Rotek's patented digital feedback technology to monitor and verify the accuracy of the voltage and current outputs simultaneously at over 10,000 times per second. Its dual 50W high-power output amplifiers provide levels of burden and compliance required to drive even the most difficult loads.
The Model 8100 provides voltages from 1 to 700V and standard current outputs from 1mA to 55A. Optional 400W current amplifiers can provide maximum currents of 50, 100 or 220A with compliance of up to 8V. The phase angle of the current output relative to the voltage output may be adjusted from +180° to -180°. Output frequency may be selected from 16 to 1000Hz.
The Model 8100 may be configured as a 2 or 3 phase system by simply connecting multiple Model 8100 Calibrators together using a standard Rotek synchronization and control cable. Front panel menus are used to set each unit as phase A, B or C. All voltage and current outputs are isolated providing complete flexibility in making connections to the UUT.
The Model 8100 provides the functions required to fully test power quality meters. Harmonics and interharmonics may be added to both the voltage and the current outputs. In addition, all outputs may be configured to reproduce sags, swells and interruptions. Other power quality related phenomena such as flicker and notching may also be simulated.
The Model 8100 facilitates the testing of all types of energy meters by delivering precise, user defined quantities of energy to the meter under test. The Model 8100 is also able to accept a pulse input for testing meters equipped with this type of output. The Option 8100-OPT Optical Rotation Detector may be used to measure the rotation of an electro-mechanical energy standard. Alternatively, the Option 8100-OPA, Optical Port Adapter, may be used to access an energy meter's optical communications port. The Model 8100 may be used with the Model 8120 six channel counter/comparator to test up to six energy meters simultaneously. When used in the external energy reference mode, all UUT's may be simultaneously calibrated against a single external energy standard.
A menu-driven front panel and simple intuitive controls make the Model 8100 extremely easy to use. Output settings and menus are displayed on a large color LCD display. Power settings may be expressed in units of Volt-Amperes, Watts or VAR's. Similarly the phase angle may be expressed as either degrees or power factor. Such flexibility allows the Model 8100 to be configured to meet the specific requirements of any user. A compact rugged design makes the Model 8100 ideally suited to a wide range of operating environments from the laboratory to the factory floor.

The Rotek Model MSB100 is a primary watt and watt-hour standard that performs at a new level of power and energy measurement accuracy. It provides reliable, accurate traceability to N.I.S.T. and other national standards worldwide. Versatile measurement ranges and unparalleled accuracy allow the MSB100 to be the single instrument necessary to calibrate any watt/watt-hour measurement instrument available today.
The sophisticated power measurement technology used by the Model MSB100 allows measurement accuracies that are unsurpassed by any instrument in its class. This exceptional performance is maintained regardless of phase angle, greatly improving power measurements at near zero power factor.
Five current input ranges are provided from 50mA to 5A. Four voltage input ranges are provided from 120 to 640VAC. Optional current ranges of 10, 50 and 200A greatly extend the functionality of this instrument.
Power measurements are displayed on the large, easy-to-read LCD graphic display. For added flexibility, an analog output is also provided on the front panel. This 10VDC signal is directly proportional to the applied power.
The MSB100 is ideally suited for use as a primary watt-hour reference meter. Energy measurements are indicated on the front panel graphic display. In addition, watt-hour measurements are available from the digital I/O connector on the front panel as a 5V digital output.
The Model MSB100's digital I/O connector may be used as a pulse input as well. Watt-hour meters equipped with a pulse output may be connected directly to the Model MSB100 and compared automatically using the built-in comparator. No additional test equipment, computers or complicated test setups are required.
The Model MSB100 has a single set of voltage input connectors and a single set of current input connectors. Range selection is accomplished using the simple, intuitive front panel controls. Ranging and all other front panel functions may be implemented remotely using the standard IEEE-488 or RS-232 interfaces. These uncomplicated connections combined with a comprehensive remote interface make the MSB100 ideal for systems use and other automated testing applications.
In addition to the measured power or energy, the comprehensive front panel display includes information on range status, internal temperature and configuration menus. The MSB100 monitors the signals at voltage and current input terminals displaying the voltage amplitude, current amplitude, phase angle and frequency.
The measurement accuracy of the Model MSB100 is maintained by two internal precision DC voltage references that are available at the front panel. Periodic monitoring of these reference voltages will provide the user with total confidence throughout the calibration cycle.
The Model MSB100 is designed to work seamlessly with the Rotek Model 8000 Power and Energy Calibrator to provide an integrated solution for the support and calibration of a wide range of watt and watt-hour meters.
The Model MSB100, used in conjunction with an AC voltage standard, is the only test equipment required to calibrate and certify the Rotek Model 8000. Rotek's 8Cal calibration software controls the MSB100 and makes all adjustments to Model 8000 automatically.
The U.S.I.T. Energy Meter Test Software automates the testing and verification of energy meters using the Model 8000. Test results are recorded in a database and the software has the capability to generate a report of calibration that meets the requirements of ISO 9000.
The U.S.I.T. software will control the Model 8000 via the IEEE-488 interface. All measurements are made using the Model 8000's optional, built in pulse counters. All configuration and control of the Model 8000 is performed by the U.S.I.T. software and once a test is started there is no operator intervention required. Up to six energy meters may be tested simultaneously calibrating against an external energy standard or directly against the Model 8000's internal reference.
The U.S.I.T. software uses a single database file to store the test procedures and test results. A report generator will format and print reports of calibration to a preview window or to a printer.
